USA TODAY - FDA: Strattera may carry risk of suicide

The attention-deficit drug Strattera may prompt children and teens to consider or attempt suicide, the Food and Drug Administration warned Thursday.
The FDA ordered Strattera’s maker, Eli Lilly & Co., to add a “black box” warning, the FDA’s strongest alert, to the drug’s label. It advises doctors and patients to be on guard for mood changes or suicidal thinking.
Doctors last year wrote about 5.9 million prescriptions for Strattera, compared with roughly 7.7 million each for its leading rivals, Adderall and Concerta, according to IMS Health, a firm that tracks drug trends.
Children with the attention disorder are impulsive, easily distracted and unable to concentrate at the same level as their peers.
